Wolsingham Grammar School and Edinburgh University prepared Neville for a fulfilling career in the veterinary profession, a lifestyle he loved. He often said that for someone with a deep affection for the natural world and the Northern Pennines it was a fabulous way to spend one’s working days.
However this busy and rewarding professional life was punctuated by serendipitous events which were to enrich his already busy schedule.
He achieved success as a writer, contributing to many local and national publications. Combined with his pictures, his writing was used in three successful quality “coffee-table” books, “Hill Farmer”, “The Border Collie”, and “The Dales Vet- a working life in pictures”.
His extensive collection of pictures of the Red Grouse were used by Saatchi and Saatchi in advertising campaigns for a “famous” brand of Scotch whisky.
His photographic library was used in hundreds of illustrated presentations which in 1996 moved from a parochial level to a global platform. For 22 years he has been in constant demand, presenting his illustrated lectures on cruise ships worldwide. He and his wife Chris have visited over 130 ports in 58 countries, including Bombay, Rio, Tahiti, the Suez Canal, the Panama Canal, Auckland, Acapulco, and Zanzibar.
In his presentation at The Witham, Neville tells how fortunate he has been, and how writing, photography, music making, history, a love of the natural world, and travel, have all contributed to “A Wonderful Life”.
